Best Motorhomes for Long Journeys

Exploring the beauty of Scotland in a motorhome can be fun and thrilling. You get to travel and enjoy at your own pace without being hassled by check-ins, trains to catch and the lot. The true beauty of Scottish wilderness, fishing in its lakes, and exploring the hinterlands is exciting and easy with a campervan. It’s like travelling with the comfort of your home.

If you are ever considering travelling around Scotland by road, there are plenty of good options to check out. Usually I hire a campervan from here for my annual trip around Scotland.

Scotland though a part of the U.K has its own distinct identity. The major cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh are to the south. The famed Scottish Highlands are to the north and the stunning locales are better explored by road than by any other means of transport. Most tourists who come start from Edinburgh or Glasgow and tend to proceed north.

Here are some driving tips for those wanting to drive by campervans and cars:

  • Ensure that you have the appropriate driving permits.
  • Invest in a good GPS device.
  • The Scottish drive on the left side of the road and the cars too are left-based, if you know what we mean. So, our tip is to go for an automatic motor rather than a manual one if you are not used to this style of driving.
  • Prepare yourself for the unpredictable Scottish weather. It is very beautiful to enjoy this tryst with nature when you are better prepared. Stock up on warm clothing, sheets and adequate food, water in the pantry.
  • Scottish whisky is famous. It may be a good idea to trail down the Highlands’ whisky distilleries, but it is a completely bad idea to drink and drive. Drive safe and enjoy yourselves!
  • It is very important that you use the appropriate fuel. Use the gas pump with proper knowledge and know the requirements of your rental.
  • There are quite a few farm animals. When you are driving through typically huge Scottish meadows watch out for animals and do not ever go beyond the speed limits.

It is breathtaking to travel around Scotland by road. So, keep your cameras ready, and enjoy your trip!
